Beavers on Deeside

'The best thing we did was swim in the rain. I wasn't even sure we were allowed to, but it was brilliant! I mean we were wet anyway, so I guess it didn't matter too much about the weather.'

Beaver Scouts are our youngest members and they generally meet for an hour per week. They are boys and girls aged between 6 and 8 years old (although there is a little flexibility). They enjoy all that Scouting has to offer; being introduced to outdoor activities, having the opportunity to be creative, exploring their local community and experiencing the excitement of a Beaver Scout Sleepover with their friends.

Beaver Scouting is all about having fun, making friends and learning new skills. Young people start to gain some independence while trying out many different activities and experiencing new adventures. The fun includes going on visits, making things, playing games and exploring the world around them.

Beavers follow a Balanced Programme, earning Challenge Awards and Activity Badges, but the most important parts are joining in and trying their best.

The Beaver Thistle Award compliments the existing awards and can be earned by completing two challenges from each of the five sections. The badges are available from Scottish Headquarters, for 35p each.

Boys and girls aged 6 or 7 can become a Beaver Scouts and, around the time of their 8th birthday, Beavers 'swim up' to Cubs to continue on their path through Scouting.

On Deeside, all seven of our Scout Groups have Beaver sections. Many, but not all, have waiting lists. Generally, a young person can go on a waiting list when they are 5. If your child is interested in joining, please contact your local Beaver Colony. Alternatively, you may fill in the form on the "Contact Us" page.
