District Explorer Gathering - September 2017

This year saw the first ever District Explorer Camp which was held at Braemar last weekend. The camp saw Explorer Scouts form Torphins (Haggis Herders ESU), Braemar (Morrone Marauders ESU), Aboyne (Gordon Grousebeaters ESU) and Banchory (Deeside Moosehunters ESU).

During the weekend Explorers had the opportunity to take part in a number of exiting activities, Saturday’s programme included; archery, backwoods cooking, woggle making, biscuit making and chariots. In the evening, an Orienteering activity on Creag Choinnich followed by a rather large campfire! Oh and did you meet Deardrie, she was affa tasty!

Sunday started off with an investiture at flag break and a Scouts Own and then onto a team competition which was a number of bases scattered across the village. These bases tested a number of different scouting skills, including: cooking, pitching patrol tents, pioneering, shelter building and first aid.

The next event for the District Explorers will be the Deeside District Wintercamp, which will be happening at Templars Park in January 2018. See you all there… oh, and remember your thermals because it’s going to be chilly!
