District Treasurer

4th October 2017

Our District Treasurer has relocated away from Deeside and we are therefore searching for a replacement. Here is the outgoing treasurer's description of the role and responsibilities.

1. 1/2 hour per month - manage bank account and transactions. Approve and make payments for leader training, camps and other activities where necessary (approx 30 transactions per year requiring cheque or online payment).

2. 3 hours per quarter - prepare for and attend meetings of the District Executive Committee, often in Banchory.

3. 5 hours per year (in February/ March) - invoice and collect payments from Scout Groups, based on youth membership numbers. Retain a small levy for District expenses and pass the balance on to Region (NE Scotland).

4. 6 hours per year - assist in setting budget, update accounts, arrange sign-off and prepare annual report.

We have made recent efforts to move to online banking and create a spreadsheet which makes the role straightforward and relatively quick. The time commitment required to do the job is therefore very manageable (2-3 hours per month on average). As the annual revenue is modest, the accounts are prepared on a cash basis.

This job can be done by anyone who can handle a spreadsheet and has a basic understanding of money. A background in Scouting is not essential. Where required, training is provided, and you will be supported by an experienced team of committee members.

As the treasurer is a trustee of a registered charity, vetting through Disclosure Scotland will be required.

Should you wish to discuss this role further, please contact Phil Allen at secretary@deesidescouts.org.uk or 01330 850335.
